Mixed Bag...

Well, I've got quite a few little things I've neglected to post about.  I've been so on the heavy side of posting lately.  Oh well.  It beats not having anything meaningful to talk about.  Anyway, to the quick hits:

I neglected to post that I had lunch with an old friend of mine a couple of weeks ago when he came to town.  Tim Ellsworth (who runs a site I regularly link to and participate on) was in town doing what has to be one of the coolest side-jobs in the world.  He got to hang with MLB umpires in preparation for an article he's working on.  We had a great time over lunch.  I really enjoyed it.

Second, I played basketball yesterday.  While that's not noteworthy in itself, I didn't get a concussion - which is a nice change of pace from the LAST time I played b-ball.  Yes, Mom, I did get an officially diagnosed concussion a couple of weeks ago and I hadn't told you yet.  :)  Everything is fine now.  As long as I don't get another one, I'll be OK.  If I do, no contact sports (which basketball ISN'T supposed to be anyway) for me for a year!  :S

Next, I've had a noticeable but intermittent tremor easily since highschool.  I won't go into the convoluted details and history, but I've been diagnosed with chronic reactive hypoglycemia.  I've done the blood test and while we're having trouble "catching me in the act", it's all but concluded.  I'm now going to go to a more frequent and structured eating plan (every 3 hours seems to be my trouble-spot) and have a monitor to check my sugars when I feel symptoms coming on.  So, we'll see what happens.  What's really odd is that as a teen, I was told I was pre-diabetic (a.k.a. border-line).  My pancreas seems to have swung the other way now - which isn't altogether a good long term sign for him/it/whatever...

The summary is that I've been to a doctor more in the last two months than I'd probably been in the previous 10 years.  Not that that's a bad thing...

Finally, I'm going to be moving hosting providers (where my websites and email lives).  So, if you notice any unavailability on sites or email, please be patient.  I'll do my best to minimize any outages.

Later.

Yeah, lunch was great. Glad we were able to get together.

Remember when we used to play basketball at the park with Erik and some other guys? Who else did we play with? Seems like I remember Jeremy Tate and Holmes. Who am I missing?

Vaguely, but that could be the concussion talking... I guess I played ball with those guys and Joe Mock, my brother, a Kern or two and seems like Ralph Latta and a lot of other non-regulars a few times, depending on the venue. I played with the Peters boys more than a few times. As you know, I never rose above the intermural circut, but it served me well for many years... Bellamy and I played IMs in college too.

See, that's the thing though. I've played basketball regularly for years now (after not playing much during college) and never had a head injury. It seems that it doesn't take many of them (according to my Doc, two) before you're benched by the medical staff. That sucks. Apparently, the noggin isn't as tolerant of injury as my knees have always been. :)
