The BIG "D"???

...no, not Defense.

...no, not Dallas, either.

This "D" is "Divorce".  Don't worry (Mom).  I'm not going through one myself - that I know of.  :)

I recently heard a sermon that gave me pause.  I've heard countless (and sometimes worthless) messages on the Biblical reasons for divorce and the like.  But the latest rendition left my wife and I talking for quite some time that afternoon.

Now, my regular readers probably know by now that I'm really not interested in your opinion if it's not backed up with Biblical principles.  I can get all the unsubstantiated opinions I want from any number of religious organizations and people.

As far as popular opinion and practice go, most acknowledge the Biblical reasons for divorce of abandonment and/or adultry.  Some, as my church does, also consider divorces that occured before the parties were Christians as forgivable.

But I have recently been shown Deuteronomy 24 where Moses allows divorce in cases where the woman is being mistreated and abused.  However, in Mark 10, this is discussed between Jesus and the Pharisees.

Jesus doesn't completely dismiss Moses' decree in Deuteronomy.  Obviously, He at the same time, supports OT Scripture (as He always did), and maintains clarity that divorce is not part of God's plan and marriage is sacred.

I have my opinions on this, but I'm curious to see if anyone else does.  The bottom line is whether or not divorce on grounds of abuse is Biblical.

Later.
