OK, I've had it. Yes, I know I've been quiet for a while, but enough is enough. I don't relish the idea of using my 100th post on this site for this topic, but this has to be said...
I'm convinced, now more than this time or this time that Pat Robertson must have a direct-dial phone number to God to come up with the things that pour out of his mouth. Either that, or he's a moron.
PR is NOT helping the perception of "The Religious Right" and especially "Christians". I use quotes because those two groups are socially perceived as one and the same - zealotous, radical, wet-blanket, school marm types out to ruin everyone's fun, condemn everyone's sins but their own, etc.
The public sees PR (and those like him) as representative of others who claim some affiliation with Christ. The truth could not be further away.
P-Rob has, in my own opinion, become an elderly, cranky, cantankerous man that has lost his sensitivity. I don't know if he's gotten bitter over the years of his work or if he's just lost the cognative ability to know how to effectively communicate a message.
I'll admit, I've never been a 700 Club fan. I've always thought they were a little odd. It's these odd ones (Christians) that society sees. The loud-mouthed, self-righteous, public faces that have the gift of piousness and a talent for talking a lot.
The elder Robertson needs to pass the baton. He's been grooming his son for years now. Yes, his son comes off less passionately than his father, but that may just be the contrast between them now, and not how Pat was in his youth. On the other hand, it could be because the younger Robertson had this empire handed to him and truly ISN'T as passionate. In any case, less passion - or at least less vocal passion - might be good for the 700 Club and for Christians anyway.
Later.
