The war on spam

Odd.  I was using a spam-fighting solution that utilizes MT-Blacklist as the source of information on what bad stuff to filter.  That, plus the black/white lists that are mentioned in the solution was serving me well - for a time. Eventually, I started seeing more and more blog spam in my site.  Grrr.  Come to find out, I was getting a 403 Forbidden error with the script that retrieved the MT-Blacklist data and pumped it into my database.  It showed up fine through my browser, so they (the guy running MT-Blacklist) must have blocked my website's IP address explicitly.  Bummer. I don't get...

Does "not guilty" = "innocent"?

Today, Michael Jackson was found not guilty on ALL 10 counts brought against him in the widely publicized molestation trial. However, I can't help but wonder if there's a difference (legally or in the court of public opinion) between “not guilty” and “innocent”.  In my mind, they're different, but I tend to be a little more cerebral in forming my views.  For those that are subject to emotions, caught in the glare of celebrity, or simply apathetic, there's likely little difference between those concepts, if most people even think about it at all. NOT your (or at least my) next vacation hot-spot...

Read this article... What do you think that does to Halifax's tourism or city growth prospects?  “Come to Halifax!  It's where they send hijacked airplanes.”  or “Welcome to Halifax!  If you live here, either the FAA doesn't know it, or you're not that important.” I think it may have made the last page on my “List of places I want to visit”.

A great article on Ménière's...

If you notice on the left side of my website page, there's a list of “Blogs I Read”, which consist of news and other information sources.  One of them is a news searching service that returns information about Ménière's disease. Today, it delivered what is probably the best description of Ménière's that I've found. While Ménière's is certainly an enigma of sorts, it does have some common symptoms that the author describes well.  Granted, he doesn't have the “pleasure“ of tinnitus (ringing in the ears), but he paints a pretty good picture of the overall experience as it affects him.
