Sad Day

Terri Schiavo died today.  I can only hope she was introduced to and accepted Christ early(ier) in her life.

I don't get this case.  A man has a wife that he won't give up control over even though he has a separate family.  Her parents have begged for her custody (and her life), but he maintains that he loves her and that he's following her wishes.

Was it her wish that he develop another family while he's STILL MARRIED TO HER?  He refused to divorce her.  He could have removed himself from the entire situation, giving control of her back to her parents and washed his hands of the whole thing.  Go home to his live-in girlfriend (in some states, common law wife) and children.

Instead, he fights to her death for her death.  He dismisses any hope or acknowledgement of progress when much of the public has seen or heard her respond to her parents, in particular to questions about asking if she wanted to be kept alive.

Something is amiss here.  I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but the story just doesn't make sense.  I can't say that I've not wondered if he didn't play a part in her medical malady (stroke / heart attack).  Sure, it was accepted that she was bulimic and that caused a potassium imbalance leading to her heart attack and subsequent stroke that lead to her vegatative state.  But there are lots of ways to screw with the heart.

In any case, it's a sad day.  We kill defenseless babies routinely and legally in the name of abortion and women's rights.  Seniors are “euthanized” more and more frequently in the name of being humane and dying with dignity (albeit usually illegally).  Now, we've just killed (starved and dehydrated, nonetheless) a woman because she can't speak for and defend herself.  Brutal.

Where were the women's rights groups for Terri?

by the way...seeing Jesse Jackson swoop in for a little face-time in front of the cameras was just about more than I could handle.
