Man, what a week... It was terrible this week. Work has been horrible. I've not been feeling well, both from the weather changes we've been experiencing and the stress that the job has been placing on me. I was feeling down about my Sunday School class. I've been discouraged about participating on our Praise Team.
Keep in mind, I know work isn't THAT important. No one dies when things go badly at work. So, I try to keep a little perspective. However, it's very much that everything that gets done is controlled by me, so when things go badly, I'm responsible. ...
I know there are plenty of folks that have innumerable ideas about how to improve what is already a wildly poplular device in the iPod/iPod Mini and a very nice MP3 manager in iTunes. However, I need to air my grievences too...
First, why can't iTunes just figure out that I want it to fill up my iPod Mini with as much music as it can hold. If the lists I have selected are too large for the Mini, then fill it up as far as possible and move on. Instead, it yells at me that the size won't fit and I...
Well, that settles it. The NHL and the Players Association can't get their acts together according to published media reports. After all the dust settles from months of arguing, fighting, stand-offs, media statements, etc it comes down to agreeing on a contract in principle and concept, but were $6.5 mm dollars apart on the details.
$6.5 mm! Seriously!?! That's hardly anything for these people. The players wouldn't have even had to hold that entire amount since that amount is at a team level. Given that a team consists of around 20 players, that's $325,000/player. On the other hand, the owners (as a...
...my wife said “He [our eldest son] reminds me so much of you it makes me ill!”
That can't be good, can it?
As Bryan Burwell, a columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch stated today:
“Dear players, ESPN replaced the programming of your games with a bunch of fat guys in sunglasses, chomping on cigars and playing poker, and the TV ratings for that time slot improved!!!!
Call me crazy, but I don't think you have any leverage.”
Granted, the number of articles ridiculing the NHLPA for finally accepting what they had for years adamantly refused (a salary cap) makes them look like morons. Well, no. They looked like morons even before they accepted the cap, since there was no justification for the salaries they were getting:...
As we were flipping channels Sunday afternoon, we happened on a television broadcast by Pastor John Hagee. He was preaching on marriage and had a list of “How to make your marriage sizzle” or something to that effect. By far, there was one of his suggestions that caught our ear and tickled our funnybone at the same time. He suggested “Read the Song of Solomon - and DO it.” The folks in the audience, and I suspect many of those watching the broadcast, did as we did...we laughed for quite a while.
We have a fairly regular routine on Saturday mornings. I get up and play basketball for a few hours early in the morning. By the time I get back the rest of the family is (usually) out of bed and getting ready for whatever we have planned for the day. Generally, that includes allowing the boys to have a little quality time with their video and computer games. We curtail that activity during the week pretty harshly, so Saturday we let them chill a little with them.
So, after I get home from shootin' hoops, we're sitting in the living room watching Saturday...
Last night I learned kids today know MUCH more than I did at the same age (and probably a lot older).
Last night, we had some friends over that were babysitting another couple's 3 year old boy. His parents were having a “date night” since it'll probably be one of the last ones they can have before their new baby girl arrives. So, I ask the 3 year old where his parents are. He tells me. I ask if they took his sister. He replies “Of course. She's still in my mommy's uterus.” Fair enough.
Later.
Does it occur to anyone else that there has been a sudden influx of news stories about people who simply fabricate stories for seemingly little more than attention?
A few months ago, I heard a story of a black woman that was suddenly pregnant with twins. Or so she told her friends, family and the news media. Whoops. Her bad. She lied.
Recently, there was the story of the woman who made up a heart-wrenching tale of her heroic husband who died while serving in Iraq. While the husband (and his name) are true enough, he's not in Iraq, or even the military,...
Generally, I like SBC and Yahoo. I've had their DSL service for MANY years now as I was an early adopter with SBC. I get really great speeds up and down as consistantly if only occasionally verified by DSLReports.com. Because I'm a paying DSL subscriber, I get a lot of the Yahoo Premium services. And, to top it all off, it's one of the cheapest services out there.
However, there's been a recent trend by them to be less than forthcoming in announcing policy changes, particularly in regards to their network. Yes, they apparently have had a document in their online help section for some...
As I've said before, I'm a HUGE fan of RSS. I love the fact that I can subscribe to different feeds from different sources on different topics and all have IT come to ME. Sure, you can surf all of those sites and accomplish the same thing. But like I said, I'm done in no time with RSS at my fingertips.
One thing always bugged me. Many folks list their “blog roll” on their websites listing the blogs they frequent. Well, that's dandy, but I had no intention on maintaining this list separately. Enter NewsGator Online Services.
I pay for NewsGator for...
