I probably shouldn’t post this. But I’m going to anyway…
Today, I received an email prayer list that contained a request that struck me. I have the privilege and honor to receive a request from a Chaplain that is on the ground in Iraq. I have the privilege and honor to pray for this man and his local “family”. As he submitted this request privately, I’ve obscured some details to protect his identity. Please join me in praying for him and his comrades as they serve their country and these people. Pray, as he requests, for the events going on over there.

XXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX, Battalion Chaplain, ##th Transportation Battalion: As a transporation battalion, my unit will be delivering the voting machines and the ballots to villages and cities throughout Iraq during the upcoming elections (January 30/31). Our convoys are prime targets for the insurgents because they do not want the equipment to arrive at the polling stations nor do they want the local Iraqi citizens to have the chance to vote; timely delivery must occur so that the elections occur.
Pray specifically for the electoral process. Historically, the previous totalitarian regime would not allow individual citizens to vote. Democracy will not be realized in Iraq if intelligent and competent officials are not elected to those strategic leadership positions within the emerging government; freedom will not have an opportunity to ring throughout this country if the voting process fails.

Folks…we never hear these stories in the news. We never read these things in the papers and magazines. They’d have us believe that these soldiers don’t care and don’t believe in their mission. This sounds like a man who believes in the cause, cares about the people he’s serving, and knows that while he may be scared/nervous, God can protect them.
He never specifically asks us to pray for him or his battalion. Please do.
